District Energy Piping System Expansion Project, City of Surrey, Phase 8

  • Completion Date: November 2024
  • Start Date: May 2024
  • Client: City of Surrey

District energy system refers to an infrastructure where entire neighborhood or community’s heating and cooling energy is produced from central plants or source, and heat produced at these central plants is injected to a fluid and then further distributed via insulated underground energy pipes. It eliminates needs for each dwelling or structure being responsible for their own heating and cooling. Thousands of traditional fossil-fuel-burning equipment, such as furnaces, hot water tanks, boilers, electric baseboard heaters and water heaters, are taken off the equation. This sustainable solution provides an alternative pathway to switch away from fossil fuels.

Complete Utility Contractors is currently installing 960m of insulated pipe throughout 2 sites, with tie-ins into 2 buildings, along with associated manhole installation, service connections, leak detection systems, communication conduits, utility pre-locates / relocation, and restoration in Surrey. It is the phase 8 of the City of Surrey’s district energy distribution piping system expansion project.
