City of Burnaby - Sewer Separation

August 1, 2020

The City of Burnaby’s 2020 Sewer separation package, CONTRACT #CA-3144, is one of many sewer separation contracts that have been released since the late 1990s. This is part of the City’s ongoing plan to divert storm water away form sanitary processing facilities.

This package was available for pre-qualified contractors only. Complete Utility Contractors is in good standing with the City of Burnaby and is pre-qualified to work on projects of a similar nature. CUC has completed close to $20,000,000 of work for the City of Burnaby in the last 18 months. All works have been obtained through competitive bidding processes.

The work on this project took place in the north-west area of Burnaby with sections of the pipe extending to Hastings Road and the main dual trench trunk sewer was completed on Boundary Road. This project involved live connections to existing sanitary systems as well a live force mains.

Heavy equipment, 470 and 345 size excavators were used to complete the deep excavations, install and remove heavy shoring and accurately place approximately 30+ concrete manholes during the project. Traffic diversions and public interface were also a major component of which both were managed successfully. The final concrete and asphalt restorations completed shortly after and during mainline work. The project was delivered on time and on budget for the City of Burnaby.
